New Tanning Trend Can Cause Serious Skin Damage

Posted on July 24, 2015 by:

**WARNING IF YOU GO IN THE SUN!!**

Some sunbathers are searching for more than a golden glow in a new social media trend that’s concerning dermatologists, cancer experts and other clinicians. It is called “sunburn art”, which is when people apply sunscreen to a certain area in order to create a design. This has become a popular trend on social media and I believe people should know how unhealthy it is to do this to their skin.

For many years, health experts have warned that UV radiation, can be damaging to the skin, leading to burns, wrinkles, dark spots, leathery skin and cancer. To read more about this trend and the harmful effects, go check out the article here

This hasn’t become an issue in the Metro Detroit area yet, but summer is starting to heat up and this trend is sure to make its way to our beaches. Cosmetic surgeons often speak with patients about the issue of aging. Damage to your skin over many years can increase this and require more cosmetic surgery. A Mommy Makeover and Facial Plastic Surgery can only do so much, so make sure to take care of your skin!

The Medical Future: Transplanting Heads

Posted on July 17, 2015 by:

I read this article about Dr. Sergio Canavero  and his plan to put the head of Valery Spiridonov, a Russian with a muscle-wasting disease, on the body of a newly dead donor. I always find articles about the advancement in medicine very interesting and I love sharing this news with all of our readers. Canavero claimed to of solved the problems his hero, Dr. Robert White, when he got a monkey’s head to live (briefly) on a new body (that couldn’t move). Canavero now says he and a team of 150 will be able to swap out an entire human body by 2017. To read more about this story, please visit this online article

Even though it seems like science fiction, the progress of medicine is developing at an exponential rate. This is evident in the new technologies coming out in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. 3D imaging is allowing us to have the ability to create an actual mold for the patient. We are now seeing great leaps in the development of bio-compatible implants for cosmetic refinement and integration. The development of stem cell research is enabling physicians to harvest and amplify our own tissues. The future may bring procedures and results that we can’t even imagine today.

Skinny Jean Lovers Beware

Posted on July 10, 2015 by:

I found this very interesting and thought you would enjoy reading about this. Please be careful with your fashion choices!

Anyone who has ever had to do acrobatic’s in order to fit into a pair of skinny jeans may want to loosen up. One woman from Australia learned the hard way, that prolonged periods of “external compression” can result in muscular and neurological consequences. She was walking down the street when her feet went numb. After being taken to the hospital, the staff had to cut off her jeans. You can read more about the skinny jean story by clicking here.

You can never be too careful when it comes to your health. That’s why at Star Plastic Surgery, we take all of the precautions necessary to make sure you have the best experience possible in a safe environment.

Shopping for jeans should be treated the same as where you choose to go for cosmetic surgery. You shouldn’t have to force yourself into a pair that is going to put you in harm’s way, you should get a pair that fits you perfectly. The same can be said for where you go for cosmetic surgery.

The philosophy of our practice is focused on the patient. We work one-on-one with you, both pre- and post-operatively to help you reach your goals. We do not have a one-size-fits-all mentality, and will customize your procedure to enhance your natural appearance, and help restore the self-confidence you deserve. Look 10 to 15 Years Younger

Posted on July 2, 2015 by:

As you age, your skin loses elasticity. Combined with lifestyle choices, stress, and sleeping habits, this can eventually lead to a puffy, baggy appearance around your eyes. In addition to making you look much older before your time, exhausted eyelids can impact vision, making it both an aesthetic and functional issue. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can restore a youthful, bright appearance to your eyes and restore vision diminished by droopy eyelids.
The board-certified plastic surgeons at Star Plastic Surgery understand how these issues can impact your self-esteem and lower your self-confidence. Using only proven surgical techniques, our Novi, Michigan eyelid surgeons can help you look and feel your absolute best.

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, gets rid of extra skin and fat from your upper and/or lower eyelids. During the free pre-surgical consultation, you will be examined and asked about your vision, tear production, and use of lenses. Factors that affect your surgery include age, skin type, ethnic background, and degree of vision obstruction. These are all important when it comes to the doctor figuring out exactly what you need.
For more information about blepharoplasty, please visit our website www.starplasticsurgery.net to schedule your free consultation.

Cosmetic Surgery Trends: Americans Spend $12.9 Billion in 2014

Posted on June 27, 2015 by:

Now it’s more popular than ever to consider cosmetic surgery. In 2014, $12.9 billion total was spent on cosmetic procedures in the U.S.  For the overall cosmetic surgery trends, According to the ASPS, surgery procedures down 12% and minimally invasive procedures are up 154%.

cosmetic surgery trendsThe primary reasons people say they decided on cosmetic surgery were to improve their self-esteem and to build their self-confidence. The physical benefits of cosmetic surgery may be obvious to the eye, but it is the emotional results of cosmetic surgery that many times provide patients with greater rewards.

If you’ve been bothered about the way you look, due to a flaw such as a nose that you may feel is too large or wrinkles that may make you feel older, cosmetic surgery can make you feel better about yourself. While many may feel that plastic surgery is not the answer to poor self-esteem, if you feel that there is an area that needs to be modified, it can be a solution to your better emotional wellness.
