Juvéderm®
Smooth Wrinkles and Restore Facial Volume
What is a Juvéderm®?
Juvéderm® is a collection of FDA-approved hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers designed to address signs of aging by restoring volume, smoothing wrinkles, and enhancing facial contours. Common treatment areas include the nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines, lips, cheeks, and under-eye hollows. By replenishing the skin’s natural hyaluronic acid, Juvéderm® helps achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

Understanding the Juvéderm® Procedure
Juvéderm® treatments are performed in-office and typically take about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the areas being addressed. The procedure involves the following steps:
1. Preparation:
The treatment area is cleansed, and a topical anesthetic may be applied to enhance comfort
2. Injection:
Using a fine needle or cannula, the Juvéderm® filler is carefully injected into the targeted areas. Most Juvéderm® products contain lidocaine to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
3. Post-Injection Care:
The provider may gently massage the treated areas to ensure even distribution of the filler.
Juvéderm® Recovery – What to Expect
Recovery from Juvéderm® injections is typically quick and uncomplicated, allowing most patients to resume their daily activities shortly after treatment. However, adhering to proper aftercare guidelines is essential to ensure optimal results and minimize potential side effects.
Immediately after the procedure
It’s common to experience mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites. These reactions are generally mild and subside within a few days. Applying a cold compress intermittently during the first 24 hours can help reduce swelling and discomfort. It’s advisable to avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the treated areas to prevent displacement of the filler. Additionally, refraining from applying makeup for at least 6 to 12 hours post-treatment can reduce the risk of infection.
In the first 24 to 48 hours
Patients should avoid strenuous physical activities, as increased blood flow can exacerbate swelling or bruising. It’s also recommended to steer clear of alcohol consumption and blood-thinning medications like aspirin or ibuprofen during this period, as they can heighten the risk of bruising. Sleeping with your head elevated can further assist in minimizing swelling.
Over the next few days
Any residual swelling or bruising should continue to diminish. While some patients may notice immediate improvements, the final results typically become more apparent within one to two weeks as the filler settles and integrates with the surrounding tissue. To support the longevity of the results, maintaining adequate hydration is beneficial, as hyaluronic acid-based fillers like Juvéderm® attract and retain moisture.
Long-term care
Involves protecting the treated areas from excessive sun exposure and extreme temperatures for at least two weeks post-injection. Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily can help preserve the filler’s effects and protect the skin. It’s also advisable to avoid facial massages, laser treatments, or other cosmetic procedures in the treated areas until cleared by your provider, typically after a two-week follow-up appointment.
