Rhinoplasty
Refine, Reshape, and Balance
What is a Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as nose surgery, is a cosmetic and/or reconstructive procedure designed to reshape the nose for improved facial harmony, breathing function, or both. As one of the most transformative plastic surgery procedures, rhinoplasty can correct aesthetic concerns such as a dorsal hump, wide nostrils, a drooping nasal tip, or overall asymmetry, while also addressing structural issues that impair breathing.
Whether you’re seeking subtle refinement or major structural correction, rhinoplasty can create a more proportionate, balanced profile and enhance your confidence.

Understanding the Rhinoplasty Procedure
Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes between one and three hours, depending on the complexity of the case.
There are two primary surgical techniques:
Open Rhinoplasty
An incision is made across the columella (the strip of tissue between the nostrils), providing full visibility and access to the internal structures. This method allows for more extensive reshaping and precision in complex cases.
Closed Rhinoplasty
All incisions are made inside the nostrils, with no external scarring. This technique is often used for more straightforward modifications and results in a faster recovery time.
Once the incisions are made, the surgeon carefully reshapes the bone, cartilage, and soft tissue to refine the nose’s appearance and/or correct internal airway structures. If a deviated septum is present, it may be straightened to improve breathing. After the desired changes are completed, incisions are closed, and a splint is applied to support the nose during healing. All incisions—whether internal or external—are placed to minimize visible scarring and promote natural-looking results.
Rhinoplasty Recovery – What to Expect
Recovery after rhinoplasty is manageable, with most patients resuming non-strenuous activities within one to two weeks.
Swelling and bruising, especially around the eyes and cheeks, are common during the first 5–10 days but gradually improve. A nasal splint is typically worn for the first week to help the nose maintain its new shape. Breathing may be temporarily affected due to internal swelling, but this typically improves as healing progresses.
Most patients return to work within 7–10 days and can resume more vigorous activity after 3–4 weeks. While noticeable changes are visible within the first month, it can take several months for residual swelling to fully resolve and final results to appear.

FAQs
What are the main benefits of rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty can enhance your facial proportions, correct asymmetry, improve nasal breathing, and create a more harmonious profile. It is both an aesthetic and functional procedure.
Will I have visible scars?
In closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are hidden inside the nose. In open rhinoplasty, the small incision across the columella typically heals very well and becomes barely noticeable over time.
Is rhinoplasty painful?
Discomfort after rhinoplasty is usually mild to moderate and can be well managed with medication. Most patients report more congestion and pressure than pain.
How long do the results last?
Rhinoplasty results are permanent. Once healing is complete, the structure and shape of your nose will remain consistent, though natural aging may cause subtle changes over time.
Can rhinoplasty be combined with other procedures?
Yes. Many patients combine rhinoplasty with procedures such as chin augmentation, eyelid surgery, or non-surgical treatments to achieve better facial balance and overall rejuvenation.
