Brighten and Refresh Your Eyes
What Is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a facial rejuvenation procedure that enhances the appearance of the eyes by removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids. It is one of the most effective ways to restore a refreshed, alert, and youthful look—especially for individuals experiencing droopy eyelids, puffiness, or bags under the eyes.
Blepharoplasty not only improves aesthetics but, in some cases, can also correct impaired vision caused by sagging upper eyelids. Whether performed for cosmetic or functional reasons, eyelid surgery is a transformative procedure that brings balance and vitality back to your appearance.

Understanding the Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Eyelid surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on whether you are undergoing upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
An incision is made along the natural crease of the upper eyelid, allowing the surgeon to remove or reposition fat, tighten muscles, and excise excess skin. The incision is closed with fine sutures, resulting in a virtually invisible scar once healed.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
For the lower eyelids, an incision is usually made just below the lash line or inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach), depending on the patient’s needs. Through this incision, fat pads are reduced or repositioned, and loose skin may be removed to smooth and firm the under-eye area.
Both procedures are often performed in combination for full eye rejuvenation, and they may also be paired with a brow lift or facelift for more comprehensive results.
Eyelid Surgery Recovery – What to Expect
Recovery from eyelid surgery is generally quick and comfortable, with most patients returning to normal activities within 7 to 10 days.
Mild swelling and bruising around the eyes are expected during the first week, along with some tightness or dryness. Applying cold compresses, keeping the head elevated, and using prescribed eye ointments or drops can greatly ease discomfort and promote healing.
You may be advised to avoid makeup, contact lenses, and strenuous activity for one to two weeks. Final results become more visible as swelling subsides, typically within three to six weeks, and scars fade naturally over time.
Eyelid Surgery FAQs
Will blepharoplasty change the shape of my eyes?
Eyelid surgery restores a more youthful, rested look while preserving your natural eye shape. Our surgeons take great care to ensure your results look natural and harmonious with your facial features.
Are the results permanent?
While eyelid surgery doesn’t stop the aging process, results are long-lasting. Upper eyelid surgery results can last 7 to 10 years or more, while lower eyelid surgery rarely needs to be repeated.
Can eyelid surgery improve vision?
Yes. For patients with severe upper eyelid sagging, removing excess skin can significantly improve their field of vision and relieve eye strain.
Will I have scars?
Incisions are carefully placed within the natural folds of the eyelids or inside the lower lid, making scars virtually undetectable once fully healed.
Can I combine blepharoplasty with other procedures?
Absolutely. Eyelid surgery is often performed alongside a brow lift, facelift, or laser skin resurfacing for more comprehensive rejuvenation.
